Travel in Colours.

by Kristian Bertel

India is one of the most colourful nations in the world with a great variety and rich cultural heritage and the country bristles with a mind-stirring landscapes and cultural traditions.

For me, as a photographer, I wanted to experience something that was so different from what I used to know about from my own home country. My journey through four provinces in this amazing country made a huge impression in my memory long after coming home.

I started out my journey in the city of Delhi, taking portraits in the streets and went through Haryana to Rajasthan. The province of Rajasthan is culturally rich and has artistic and cultural traditions which reflect the ancient Indian way of life. I stepped into the barren Thar Desert in Rajasthan from the city of Jaisalmer and traveled further on to the blue city of Jodhpur and to the intricate alleyways of Udaipur.

Later on I went east to the historical city Varanasi, situated at the River Ganges in the Uttar Pradesh. The city is sacred to Hindus and also one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. In Varanasi, the scene of pilgrims doing their devotions in the River Ganga was an impressive sight.
