Burning Man Festival, (Black Rock City) Nevada, USA.

by Travis White , 2013

I’ve been wanting to make the journey to Burning Man Festival in America for as long as I can remember. I first heard about it in the late 90’s and I finally made the journey from Australia to Nevada in 2013.

So where do I begin in describing Burning Man Festival? This quote sums it up perfectly: ”Every day is a Choose Your Own Adventure book with about 500 options on each page. This is why when you ask someone ‘How was Burning Man?’ they typically try a couple of stories, shrug helplessly and say ‘You just gotta go’ ”. This was my exact reply to everyone I spoke to when I came back to reality after the festival.

I’ll do my best to sum up my thoughts on Burning Man in a few lines (which is practically impossible). Burning Man reiterated to me that life is a beautiful gift and it should not be wasted. It also showed me how to be more kind, loving and compassionate to everyone around me. The outpouring of pure, unadulterated creativity at Burning Man is jaw-dropping. Everything from the art pieces and sculptures to the people and the outfits they wear is a feast for the senses. I’ve never witnessed anything like it.

Burning Man also offers the opportunity for personal growth, change and to meet some of the most incredible people from all around the world. I felt an amazing sense of freedom riding around the desert taking these photos. The type of freedom that makes you feel as though you don’t have a care in the world other than to be present in that exact moment and embrace everything happening around you. For me, Burning Man felt like a collective gathering of people who are trying to live or find a life less ordinary. Myself included.

Whatever your plans are for this year, cancel them. Start planning your journey to Burning Man now.
